JR Times: Connecting readers to Japan since early 2020
In May 2020, during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, Japan Rail Times (JR Times) was launched by East Japan Railway Company Singapore Branch, now managed by JR East Business Development SEA (SEABD), as the media arm of JAPAN RAIL CAFE Singapore.
The aim was to connect with travel enthusiasts from Singapore and beyond despite the travel restrictions in place, providing detailed rail travel guides and sightseeing information to lesser-known parts of Japan.
This platform quickly became a favourite among those who love visiting Japan, especially by train in Eastern Japan.
JAPAN RAIL CLUB, your one-stop platform for all things Japan
As the JR Times community grew post-pandemic, alongside the launch of JAPAN RAIL CLUB’s Omiyage Snack Box Subscription in December 2022 and sales of JR East rail passes and travel products in July 2024, we recognised the need to consolidate all things Japan-related into a single platform.
We believe that having all information on travel and culture in one place offers Japan lovers like yourself a comprehensive experience and convenience in your discovery. This is particularly important for showcasing lesser-known areas and addressing Japan’s overtourism issue.
From cultural insights to local recommendations
In November 2024, we will be merging JR Times with JAPAN RAIL CLUB, expanding our offerings beyond rail travel. In addition to articles that complement the monthly snack box themes, you can now enjoy a rich variety of content about Japan travel, including sightseeing guides, rail travel information, deeper cultural insights, and even local recommendations from JR East staff themselves. We also feature stories about small local makers from across Japan, bringing you closer to the heart of Japanese craftsmanship.
