Summer in Japan is synonymous with vibrant festivals, and there’s no better place to experience them than in Tohoku! This northeastern region is home to some of the country’s biggest and most spectacular Matsuri (summer festivals), with each prefecture showcasing its own unique traditions. Most of these festive events take place over several days in early August. Here’s a roundup of the major ones—all of which we’ve featured on our blog:
