March 2025

As Spring Comes Marching In: Celebrate Girls' Day with Treats and Traditions!

Spring is just around the corner, symbolising new beginnings. In Japan, one of the most significant events marking the arrival of spring is Hina Matsuri (ひな祭り), or Girls’ Day, a day to wish for girls’ health and happiness. Celebrated every 3rd of March, families display hina dolls and enjoy traditional snacks like colourful rice crackers called hina-arare (ひなあられ) and three-tiered hishi-mochi (菱餅) in shades of pink, white, and green.

Before the iconic cherry blossoms bloom, March is also the season for plum blossoms, often showcasing a deeper pink hue, and lots of strawberries!

In addition to Girls’ Day, we also celebrate International Women’s Day on March 8th – a moment to appreciate the women who inspire us all.

Celebrate the coming of spring and Girls’ Day with JAPAN RAIL CLUB by indulging in seasonal snacks from Japan! From strawberry-flavoured treats and plum sweets to hina-themed delights, stay tuned this March 2025 for a snack box full of sugar, (shiso) spice, and everything nice!
