Assorted Arare in Goldfish Pattern Drawstring Bag

金魚柄巾着入りあられ

Arare (あられ) is a type of bite-sized crackers made from glutinous rice. This assortment comes in 5 different flavours; soy sauce, kobu salt, rich consomme, cheese curry, and sansho. Kingyo-sukui (金魚すくい), or goldfish scooping is a rich and unique traditional game played in Japan during specific festivals in summer.

As the game title suggests, you basically have to scoop as many fishes as possible from a larger container into your own smaller container. Once you're done, you can even bring home your winning bag of fishes caught during the event! FUN FACT: There is even a city located in Nara Prefecture (奈良県) called Yamato Koriyama (大和郡山市), which is famous for cultivating goldfish. So much so that it has a goldfish as its own town mascot, and they even have an annual National Kingyo Sukui Championship held every year in August. Are you feeling the festivities yet?
